2018 marks the ‘Year of Young People’ in Scotland, and the theme for Learning Disability Week reflects that. ‘My Generation’ will focus the country’s attention on the experiences of young people with learning disabilities in Scotland.
The more parents engage in their child’s learning, the more likely it is that they will help raise their child’s attainment. This week we would like to remind schools of what they can do to support their parents who have learning disabilities themselves.
Below are the links to two Easy to Read letter templates, provided by People First, who created them with a group of parents with Learning Disabilities. One is an invitation to Parents Evening, and the other is information for a school trip.
We urge parent councils to encourage their school to use these templates, and are heartened to hear of a large number of Glasgow schools planning to adopt them.
