We are delighted to be attending a  launch event for Languages in a Nutshell today,  in collaboration with SCILT, Scotland’s National Centre for Languages.

Pupils, parents and teachers will enjoy a celebration of languages in Irvine this afternoon, including yoga in French, Spanish storytelling and a theatre production.

We are delighted to have received the support of John Swinney, Deputy First Minister who said:

“My congratulations to the National Parent Forum of Scotland and Scotland’s National Centre for Languages on the launch of this new Languages in a Nutshell leaflet, focussing on the 1+2 Language policy and the significance of language learning. This helpful publication sets out how parents and carers can support their child’s language learning so that they can reach their full potential and complements the others in the Nutshell series.

“Languages open up a world of opportunities to young people, having the ability to communicate with others is key to individual future success and in our increasingly globalised economy. That is why the Scottish Government is committed to ensuring that all young people receive their full entitlement to learning two additional languages, between primary one and their third year of secondary school.”

The publication is available to download here, or hard copies can be requested by emailing office@npfs.org.uk
