The Education and Skills Committee is carrying out an inquiry into music tuition in schools. It wants to find out the extent to which charging for instrumental music tuition as part of the school curriculum acts as a barrier to participation by pupils, particularly those from low income households.

As you may remember, we recently asked you, through our social media channels, to share your stories and opinions with us, telling us how the introduction or increases in charges for music tuition in schools across Scotland has affected your children and family.  Thank you to everyone who shared their stories with us. With this feedback, we have been able to compile a response to the inquiry which demonstrates the real impact that these charges have had on real families across the country.
