Outdoor Classroom Day 2019

Thursday 23rd May is #OutdoorClassroomDay

Outdoor Classroom Day is a global campaign to inspire and celebrate outdoor learning and play. Schools are encouraged to take lessons outside and prioritise playtime. In 2018 over 3.5 million children across the world got outdoors to play and learn as part of their school day. Make sure that you and your children don’t miss out getting involved in 2019!

Parents, head over to their website for Tips to Encourage Free Play and Weekend Activity Ideas: https://outdoorclassroomday.org.uk/resources/   Also on this website teachers can find Curriculum-Linked Lesson Ideas.

When teachers take learning outdoors they report some powerful impacts: children’s behaviour improves; whole classes are excited to learn; and individuals who feel inhibited by the curriculum often thrive in an outdoor environment. Play is not only central to children’s enjoyment of childhood, but teaches critical life skills such as problem-solving, teamwork and creativity.

When adults think back to their own happiest memories of childhood, they frequently recall the joy of playing outdoors.

Parents have the power to give their children the time, space and permission they need to play and learn outdoors. Parents can encourage their child’s school to get involved and take steps towards more time outdoors at home.
