The Scottish Government’s Out To Play Guide has been launched. It includes guidance for setting up outdoor spaces for children to play. Outdoor Learning has huge benefits for children’s health and wellbeing and can be responsible for boosting academic attainment. Article 31 of the United Nation Convention on the Rights of the Child states that all children have the right to play and engage in recreational activities. As a result of this Scottish Government initiative, children will have the opportunity to take a step out of the traditional classroom and learn outdoors. Children’s Minister Maree Todd said that “playing outdoors is good for children’s health and wellbeing, develops their social skills and is great fun!” Playing and learning outdoors also improves the social skills of children, which help to develop feelings of cohesion and belonging and instead reduce social isolation. The National Parent Forum Scotland have signed up our support.
