A lack of diversity in the teaching workforce is a long-term issue not just in Scotland but in many other countries around the world. As the pupil population of our schools continues to become more and more diverse, this lack of diversity in staff is becoming even more of an issue.

Scotland’s Race Equality Action Plan for 2017-2021 A Fairer Scotland for All asked the Strategic Board for Teacher Education (SBTE) to establish a working group to look at how, as a nation, we might increase the number of teachers from ethnic minorities in Scottish schools.

The following report, Teaching in a Diverse Scotland: Increasing and Retaining Ethnic Teachers, was published on the Scottish Governments website and aims to increase the number of teachers from under-represented groups at all levels in Scottish Schools.
