There was good news this week for Time for Inclusive Education (TIE) campaigners as The National Union of Students Scotland (NUS) join forces with ourselves here at NPFS, Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS), Children and Young People’s Commissioner Scotland amongst others in backing the campaign for LGBT-inclusive education in schools- specifically getting behind calls for student teachers to receive LGBT awareness training.

NUS Scotland formally backed the Time for Inclusive Education (TIE) campaign, saying they believe that newly qualified teachers should be given additional training to help them support pupils who are victims of homophobic, bi-phobic and transphobic bullying in our schools.

Research commissioned by TIE showed that 90 per cent of LGBTI people have experienced homophobia, bi-phobia or transphobia at school, with 80 per cent of teachers saying there is a lack of adequate training on how to tackle LGBTI based bullying.
