CfE Update from Joanna Murphy

June  2012
Dear Parent Council Chair
I have been trying to keep you up to date with what the National Parent Forum has been doing around Curriculum for Excellence – hoping that this will help you as you see changes being made in your own school.
Recently Scottish Government published four short films on Curriculum for Excellence. You can access the films at   http://www.engageforeducation.org/home/cfefilms/ and you may want to add the film links to your own Parent Council and/or school website, unhealthy and share them widely with parents via your newsletters, sales blogs, twitter feeds, or in any other sources that you can think of. I am also attaching some flyers which will help publicise the films and signpost parents to where they can get more information. You might want to use these in your school foyer or at events. More can be requested from: parentzone@ltscotland.org.uk.
We know that the most important and relevant information is that which relates to your own child, your own school and we have also been working with Education Scotland to encourage schools to share their plans on what they are doing with you and with parents as widely as possible.
There has also been a recent announcement from Scottish Government about a further support package available to schools for Curriculum for Excellence and more information on the New Qualifications has just been published. Watch out for a more detailed update on this in the next National Parent Forum of Scotland’s e-newsletter coming out soon and on our website www.parentforumscotland.org.
Hope this latest information is of help and please get in touch with us if you have any good examples to share from your own school about how Curriculum for Excellence is going or how parents are being involved.
